February is National Pet Dental Health Month!

February 7, 2010 • Stonebriar Vets

Stonebriar is offering a 10% discount on dental cleanings in February to help promote the best preventive care for our patients.

Top 5 reasons to get a dental check up and cleaning:

  • 75% of dogs and cats have gum disease beginning at 3-4 years of age.
  • Pets that receive regular dental care live up to 2 years longer than those who don’t.
  • Gums that are infected can cause discomfort even if your dog or cat still eats normally.
  • Cats are susceptible to lesions on the teeth referred to as FORL (feline oral resorptive lesion); these are painful and usually require extraction of teeth if severe. I find these frequently on my feline patients who have just come in for a regular check up. These animals will continue to eat but chew on the other side of their mouth or quit chewing and just swallow dry kibble so their owners are unaware of a painful tooth.
  • Chronic infections in the mouth can spread through the bloodstream and cause heart, liver, or kidney damage to occur.
